Starting at Mettlach, the river valley narrows – the cliffs become steeper. You leave Saarland near Saarhölzbach and, a bit later, pass the red cliffs of the Düro sandstone works. Then follows the small Saar bend near Hamm. Afterwards, we reach Germany’s second highest lock and dam near Serrig. You can explore Saarburg’s picturesque Old Town with its romantic waterfall, numerous cafes and restaurants on foot or with the Saar Valley Train.
